At 3,976 meters above sea level, it is the third highest volcano in the country and one of the most popular for offering spectacular views of the actively erupting Volcán de Fuego.

A high altitude experience

The hike to the summit of Acatenango is a demanding but thoroughly rewarding trek. During the ascent, you will hike through different microclimates ranging from cloud forests to volcanic moors. Upon arrival at base camp, you will witness one of the most impressive natural spectacles: the explosions of lava and ash from the Volcán de Fuego, which light up at night like natural fireworks.

For the more adventurous, the final sunrise ascent to the summit offers a panoramic view of the neighboring volcanoes -Agua, Fuego, Pacaya and Tolimán- along with the awakening of the sun over the sea of clouds.
